Secrets of Great Pyramid of Giza to be revealed by a robot

Daily Mail - Science & tech

The 4,500-year-old secrets of the Great Pyramid of Giza's maze of hidden chambers are set to be revealed by an inflatable robot. Researchers are building a blimp-like probe that enters ancient monuments via a 3.5-centimetre (1.4-inch) 'keyhole' drilled through a wall. Once inflated inside the chamber, the drone flies like a blimp to explore inaccessible areas with minimal damage to artefacts or structures hidden within. Last month, a mysterious 30-metre (100ft) void nestled above the pyramid's Grand Gallery deep within the monument was discovered by an international team of researchers. Robotic Blimp Could Explore Hidden Chambers of Great Pyramid of Giza

Last month, the ScanPyramids project, led by a team of researchers from the University of Cairo's Faculty of Engineering in Egypt and the HIP Institute in France, announced that they'd used muon imaging to discover a large void hidden deep inside the Khufu's Pyramid (also known as the Great Pyramid of Giza, since it's the big one). Nobody knows what's inside, or if there's anything inside at all, or even if maybe that's where the Stargate is stashed. Obviously there's a lot of interest in what may or may not be hiding out in here, and it could help solve mysteries like how and why exactly the pyramids were built. The problem is that (understandably) we're not going to just start blowing holes in the Great Pyramid to see what's going on. In 2002, Egyptologists used a custom exploration robot (made by iRobot, in fact) to explore a small shaft leading out of the Queen's Chamber in the Great Pyramid that was sealed by a door.

'Assassin's Creed' predicted the new pyramid chamber discovery

Engadget

Just days ago, scientists found a previously undiscovered chamber inside the Great Pyramid of Giza. As it turns out, the makers of Assassin's Creed: Origins had the jump on them. As Kotaku's Stephen Totilo notes, the space itself is already built into the game, which came out almost a week prior to the findings getting published. We already knew that the Egypt-set title is a stickler for historical accuracy, but this is on a whole other level. We knew about the theories of JP Houdin.

Pyramid Of Giza Void Built Into 'Assassin's Creed: Origins' Before Discovery

International Business Times

A 30-meter hidden chamber was discovered buried deep within the Great Pyramid of Khufu by a team of scientists. The discovery published on Nov. 2 in journal Nature has drawn massive attention in the past couple of days, and has taken archeologists and historians across the world by surprise. However, for fans of popular game franchise "Assassins Creed" it was old news. The game, which was released on Oct. 27 before the discovery was made, already had the void included as part of an in-game quest to explore Egypt's Great Pyramid of Giza. The discovery is the first significant one made about the ancient tombs since the 19th century.

There's apparently a giant void in the Great Pyramid. Here's why we don't know what's in there.

Popular Science

In addition to seeing the already-explored King's Chamber, and confirming an earlier observation, they also saw a large, nearly 100-meter-long void in the pyramid, isolated from the previously investigated chambers. Its huge size is intriguing to researchers who would like to know more about how the pyramids were constructed. Only fragments of evidence of building techniques remain. It's unclear what the void is, and the researchers are careful not to call it a room or a chamber. As Egyptologist Mark Lehner told multiple outlets including the New York Times, finding holes in a pyramid isn't exactly rare.

'Big void' identified in Khufu's Great Pyramid at Giza

BBC News

The mysteries of the pyramids have deepened with the discovery of what appears to be a giant void within the Khufu, or Cheops, monument in Egypt. It is not known why the cavity exists or indeed if it holds anything of value because it is not obviously accessible. Japanese and French scientists made the announcement after two years of study at the famous pyramid complex. They have been using a technique called muography, which can sense density changes inside large rock structures. The Great Pyramid, or Khufu's Pyramid, was constructed during the reign of Pharaoh Khufu between 2509 and 2483 BC.

Hidden structure found inside the Great Pyramid of Giza

Daily Mail - Science & tech

The Great Pyramid of Giza has been shrouded in mystery for millennia, but now a long-held secret of its structure might be known thanks to particle physics. A narrow void lying deep within the ancient Wonder of the World has been found by scientists using cosmic-ray based imaging. The internal structure is located above the Grand Gallery - which links two of the Pyramid's chambers - and traces a similar route for at least 30 metres (100ft). While the precise design and purpose of the void is unknown, it has been hailed by the team of academics as the biggest discovery inside the Giza landmark since the 19th century. Deep Learning Sheds New Light on an Ancient Mystery According to Robert G. Cathcart

Still think the Great Pyramid is an ancient tomb? Some experts in deep learning may beg to differ. They have discovered that a particular application of deep learning methodology applied to the ancient structures on the Giza Plateau, including the Great Pyramid, may in fact show that it is a three dimensional process diagram. "We were using a deep learning methodology that helps us identify and categorize unknown symbols and processes. We thought it would be fun to use it on something everyone knows. We were amazed to find that the Giza Plateau may in fact be a three dimensional process diagram."
